Are people born fat?

I was once 99kg, or more, when I was 15 (height of 161 cm +/- 1) . I stopped weighing myself once I hit 99kg, because I was terrified of crossing over to a weight of triple-digits. (Can someone say self-denial) I wonder what was wrong with me. I was vegetarian, so I never ate fatty meat, and I am eating normal portions of food. My parents told the dietitian I was seeing then that I did not ate much, and occasionally I would play badminton and skip rope. So WHAT was WRONG??

What an acquaintance told me seems to provide me a solution to my question. She told me that she can never diet and that dieting is fatal for her. Everytime she diets or exercise, she would faint and be sent to hospital, thus her family forbids her from losing weight (she is overweight then, I have not seen her since). She said that fat-ness is genetic, and she can't do a thing about it. Then, it strikes me. One of my grandparents, my parents and sibling are all oversized, so maybe, I am born fat as well. I am destinied to be fat my whole life. This is re-enforced by all my relatives and people around me who loves to ask me "Are your family fat?" When I affirm this, they would breathe a sigh of relief (whew, found a reason for my obesity, not a fatty-virus going around) and say "that's why you are fat." This provided me a perfectly good reason to stop trying.

Hooray! I shall be fat and jolly my entire life now. However, I managed to lose enough weight to a current weight of 55kg, standing at 163cm. Due to circumstances.

I tell you. There is NO SUCH THING as BORN FAT. The reason me and my family are on the bigger side is because of what we eat. Our meals are super sumptuous with 5 dishes (4 meat and 1 veggy, or for the once-vegetarian me, mock-meat... fried, yum!) with soup, plus big bowls of rice. (for 4 or 5 person) We thought the portion is normal because, it is. For us. The amount of exercise I did could never expend this amount of calories. My friend did the whole weight-loss thing wrong, either too unhealthy or too extreme, and so she ended up with disastrous consequences. So let me repeat, no one would be fat forever. Unless you have some thyroid problems, but even then, you can can control what you eat or exercise.

For a very jiggly me, I love looking at those forums, where some extreme, self-righteous, possibly slim, maybe fat person would say fat people are disgusting, lazy, smells etc. (I look at these forums as a way to torture myself =)) Then while trying not to bang the wall for being a hazard to the world, I saw this brilliant message on the forum and I quote "stop fooling yourself, if people are born fat, how come the starving people in Africa are skeletally thin?"

Answer to the question <3

Hate to be yours,
